As mentioned earlier I have a great deal of faith in the Ayurvedic approach to “dis-ease”. I have personally used Ayurvedic guidelines and products in my practice with a lot of success. The heart of this ancient system of medicine are the three constitutional types, or Doshas. They are Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
According to Ayurvedic principles, each person has a natural tendency to conform to one or more of these Doshas in normal circumstances. When the body goes out of balance so do one or more of the Doshas. Foods, herbs yoga and certain oils are used to assist in returning the body to its natural balance.
Vata is said to be located in the colon mainly. When patients display with nervous system related complaints I immediately look at the behavior of the colon!
Pitta has its primary site in the small intestine.
Kapha’s primary site is the stomach. All this is really just scratching the surface of an ancient, complex, but revered system
I am thrilled to be recommending Ayurvedic products – many of which I have had personal experience. I have used theses products on some very ill patients and, although I may not make health claims, I have had a great deal of success.
A trained practitioner or advisor can help you assess your underlying body type/constitution and where it may be out of sync. They will then be able to help you plan a food list and treatment strategy suitable for you.
Some of the remedies I will talk about are self explanatory, and so if its obvious, you may be able to select your requirements just by the name or description.
One of the most famous herbs to come out of India is Ashwagandha. It is famed for its nerve tonic abilities and is beneficial in arthritis, insomnia, joint and nerve pain, wasting diseases and impotence.
It is probably the prime strengthening tonic used in Ayurveda. Planetary Herbals Ashwaganda gets my vote because i know who makes this particular product and they produce high quality products which you can be sure of.
